This shows both 1879 Flowing Hair obverse dies side by side.

The first is the common one seen on gold, aluminum, white metal and most copper examples of J1635-J1637A/P1832-P1836 with the point of Liberty's neck pointing to the first star and the pearl in her coronet pointing to star 6.

The second with the point of Liberty's neck pointing to the "1" in the date and the pearl pointing to the first 7 is known by only a single gilt copper example and is listed by Pollock as J1636A/P1837. This obverse is probably the first die produced and was first described in lot 1447 of the Chapman Brothers May 1906 H.P. Smith sale where it was purchased by J.C. Mitchelson.
